Building Financial Wellness

At Nelson Murphy Insurance & Investments, we believe that financial planning should feel approachable, empowering, and tailored to your life. Founded in September 2012 by Bob Nelson and Mike Murphy, our locally-owned and independent practice was built on a shared vision: simplify the complex world of insurance, investments, and financial planning to help people make confident decisions at every stage of life.

Our Mission

We know financial planning can be overwhelming. That’s why our mission is to provide clarity and guidance, giving you the tools and insights needed to make smart, informed decisions. Whether you’re building your first budget, planning for a growing family, or preparing for retirement, we meet you where you are and help you plan for where you want to be.

Our Approach

We focus on building trusted, long-term relationships by listening to your goals, understanding your concerns, and providing personalized solutions that make sense for your unique situation. Financial planning isn’t just about numbers—it’s about creating a roadmap that helps you live a life you love.

Our Team

Bruce Aken

Bruce Aken, CFA, CPFA©

Wealth Manager | Managing Partner

Bruce has a knack for making complex financial matters feel approachable. A natural planner, he helps individuals, families, and business owners navigate investments, insurance, and everything in between.

Before joining NMII, Bruce earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation while working on a team overseeing more than $7 billion in investments. With years of experience in investment management and strategic planning, he thrives on creating tailored solutions that stand the test of time.

Bruce met his better half, Brook, on their elementary school playground. Now, as proud parents of two adventurous daughters, they share a love for travel and the great outdoors. When he’s not strategizing with clients, Bruce can be found on the golf course, exploring a new trail, or carving down a ski slope.

Mike Murphy

Wealth Manager | Founding Partner

Mayor Mike, as some people call him, has never met a stranger and tends to know someone wherever he goes. A “doer” from early on, Mike met his wife Stacy at a leadership camp in high school (they now have two children–also “doers”). Mike has served on several Omaha non-profit boards including JDRF, Ronald McDonald House, CASA, Project Harmony Service League, and the Westside Foundation. Mike loves cooking for his family and playing ice hockey. He took up the sport at age 38 and still plays twice a week.

People might be surprised to know Mike was once on a “Secret Crush” episode of the Maury Povich show.

Tony Daniel

Tony Daniel, CFP®, CPFA©

Wealth Manager | Partner

Tony’s story is one of dedication, growth, and a touch of charm. Raised in Arkansas before moving to Nebraska during high school, Tony stayed close to home for college, excelling as a two-year captain on Creighton University’s baseball team. After graduation, he began his career in financial services, focusing on corporate retirement plans. His growing passion for financial planning inspired him to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, turning his career into a fulfilling mission of helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate the complexities of the financial
world.

Tony’s personal life is just as vibrant. He met and married his wife, Karly Jurgensen—a talented professional singer and convinced her to trade the bright lights of New York for the warmth of Omaha. Together, they’re raising three daughters, with Tony finding joy in family life, golfing, woodworking, and indulging in Marvel movie marathons. His
woodworking shop is his sanctuary, where he’s brought to life creations ranging from custom furniture to Santa’s sleigh.

As a fun twist, Tony’s name received multiple write-in votes as a candidate during the 2016 presidential election, garnering votes across four states—a humorous nod to his knack for making an impression wherever he goes.

Bob Nelson, LUTCF, FSS

Founder Emeritus

A certified legend in the world of insurance, Bob has been inducted into five halls of fames and has spoken to hundreds of audiences about his 12 Fundamentals of Living. In 2001, Bob was elected President of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), which at that time had 76,000 members. During his term Bob helped to change national legislation for victims and families of 9/11. Locally he helped start the First Responders Foundation in 2010. He and his wife Betsy have three kids and seven grandchildren.

People might be surprised to know Bob served 4 years active and 19 years reserve in the US Navy, retiring as a Navy Captain in 1994. His entire Navy career was in intelligence.
